What I’ve Been Up To: December 2013

What I have been up to: We had a blizzard. One co-worker said that she has lived here for 22 years and she has never seen a snow storm like that in St George. And not only did we get a snow storm, but the snow stuck around for more than a week. (In fact we still have some in patches in our yard weeks later.) Totally weird for St. George. But the kids enjoyed snow fights and building snow men. I got my neighbor gifts AND my Christmas cards out before Christmas. Wahoo!  (Well, most of them.) Read more [...]

What I've been up to: Thing 1 had a birthday. If you live in the St. George area, the Sand Hollow Aquatic Center is the best deal for you birthday party money. $65 gets you an hour and a half of swimming for 12 kids, plus a hot snack bar item, a drink, a balloon and a party favor for each child. The kids get some healthy activity and I don't have to worry about all of the stress that comes with hosting a children's party at my house. (You do however have to book at least 2 weeks in advance.) What I have been up to: I made my son a sackboy costume for Halloween. When I was in high school my mom wanted me to take sewing. I opted for Spanish, anatomy and orchestra. I think in the long run those classes have served me well, but the week before Halloween I was really wishing that I had a better idea of what I was doing. However, it turned out descent and he loved it so much he wants to wear it next year for Halloween too. Visited some friends on the Wasatch front. :) I made Read more [...]

Mormon Journey Part 1: Religion and My Childhood

I realize that there are people in all parts of the spectrum who aren't going to agree with what I have to say. I'm not telling my story to try to convince anyone, I'm telling my (our) story to tell the story. I told part of our story here, but there was more to it, before and after. I have many friends and acquaintances who have asked me to share it. I hope that it helps you readers, wherever you are in your journey. If it helps you with your faith, great. If it helps you with your doubts, awesome. Read more [...]

What I've been up to: Homework! I'm having a love/hate relationship with it. I'm enjoying the challenge of school, but sometimes I get tired of so many hours in front of the computer. Ceder City Half Marathon- One of my favorite things to do is go on long runs with my husband. It is not one of his favorite things to do, but he is a good sport about it and comes anyway. Also this is just a beautiful canyon to run. We took our family camping at Goblin Valley. Lots of great hiking and Read more [...]

What I've been up to: I didn't get into graduate school. The program is very competitive and the fact that my application wasn't complete (One transcript office sent my transcript to the wrong school and it took 2 weeks to get a hold of someone who was even willing to write down my name.) made it one of the first on the chopping block. Of course that was a little disappointing, but I think it is for the best. I can still take a few classes online that will count toward my degree (at a lower tuition Read more [...]

What I’ve been doing: Visited the Grand Canyon My toddler has decided that she wants to be potty-trained. No actual success yet. But everyday she takes a few minutes to sit on the potty. Baby steps... School shopping for my kids In an attempt to keep the kids busy I enrolled them in some day camps. Painting for Thing 1 and World Traveling for Thing 2. Found a great bedroom set for Thing 2 on KSL for $200. Organized and de-cluttered his room. Perhaps it will be easier to keep clean. Read more [...]

What I've been doing: My 14 year old sister came to visit for 2 weeks. We did a lot of hiking (in the mornings) and hiding inside in the afternoons, because that's what we do in St. George in the summer time. My mom had a stroke and heart surgery, so I've been...worrying. Went on a mother/daughter Girl Scout campout with Thing 1 Cindy Lou Who fell off a kitchen chair, split her chin open and needed her first set of stiches... the same day that I was getting ready for the campout and my Read more [...]

What I've been up to: Discovered that it gets hot enough in St George in April to melt those gel window decorations to the inside of your windows. True story. Took my parents and sister to Zion's National Park. We had a great time and the weather was very cooperative. Visited Pioneer Park while the weather was still nice. Volunteering for the St George Children's Museum. Since we moved here almost 4 years ago we've heard that this was going to open. It looks like it's finally going to happen, Read more [...]
