What I’ve Been Up To: September

What I've Been Up To (other than homework and unpacking): We took the kids to the Denver Gem & Mineral Show. When I was a kid my grandpa was very interested in rocks. He helped me start a rock collection and encouraged my interest and study in this. It's not something I've been involved in for decades. Recently Thing 1 has shown excitement and interest in rocks, and I was happy to support this. We took her to this show where in addition to exhibits, there were several kid oriented rock and Read more [...]

Kanarra Falls

by heather
Shortly before we moved away from southern Utah we took our kids to Kanarra Falls. If you are ever in the area in the summer, I highly recommend it. It was 25 degrees cooler than St. George, and in late July it felt absolutely heavenly. My kids still talk about this hike on a regular basis and it was my favorite family activity that we did this summer. To get to Kanarravile you take exit 41 off I-15. Travel north until you hit the tiny town (the highway turns into main street) and turn Read more [...]

What I've Been  Up To: (Besides Moving and Homework) Hiked Kanarra Falls with my family. I think this was my favorite activity of the summer. When I get around to it, this deserves its own blog post, Hiked Kolob Canyon with friends and our kids. Southern Utah has so many beautiful views. I'm definitely going to miss it. Hiked the Tuachan Saddle with friends. I sure am going to miss my hiking friends as well as the red rock mountains and trails. My kids started school. Visited Read more [...]

What I’ve Been Up To: July

New student orientation! And discovered a few more exciting options that I can go with my career. We found a place to live, then decided to consider more options, found an option that I think will be better for our family, although we weren't able to see this last option in person. (Btw, it doesn't really help that there is a housing shortage in the city where we will be moving. It makes me feel more grateful that we found a place.) I found a new job that I think will fit my needs, made it Read more [...]

Adolescent Sex Education: History and Policy

by heather
This is a paper that I wrote for my Health Care Policy Class last semester. I thought the topic was important and could lead to some good discussions. I think parents, healthcare workers, policy makers and concerned citizens need to be more aware of these issues and how they are handled. In light of the recent Hobby Lobby ruling, I think it is even more imperative that the public is given accurate medical information about sex. Adolescent Sex Education Policy and Effects “One of the great Read more [...]

What I’ve Been Up To: May 2014

I finished the semester (did well) and the kids finished the school year. May is always very busy. It's started getting warm here so we've been hitting the swimming pool and the splash park regularly. I cleaned my house like it was my new religion. It's now up on the market. If someone is inclined to buy it, that would be awesome. Or if you know someone who is looking for a 7 bedroom house in a nice neighborhood in St George, send them my way. We left the kids with Grandma and Grandpa for Read more [...]

Utah Field House of Natural History State Park Museum & Dinosaur Garden

by heather
Last week we met some extended family in Vernal to run the Dino Half Marathon. While we were there we felt it was imperative to check out some dinosaurs at the Utah Field House of Natural History State Park Museum and Dinosaur Garden. My kids loved it and if we were in the area I think we would go again (although I don't think I would drive seven hours again just for this). Admission is $6 for 12 and up, and $3 for 6-12. So my kids that are 1 & 5 got in free. (I couldn't find any coupons online, Read more [...]
