Book Review: Ketchup is a Vegetable: And Other Lies Moms Tell Themselves

by heather
I think most mothers can identify with the title of this book, because parenting is hard and just because you want what is best for your kids (like have them eat their vegetables), it doesn't mean that they're going to cooperate. And sometimes the results are hilarious. In Ketchup Is a Vegetable: And Other Lies Moms Tell Themselves, Robin O'Bryant shares some of these hilarious moments she has experienced with her three adorable and patience-trying daughters. She shares her concerns and her love Read more [...]

What I’ve Been Up to: November

What I've been up to: Thing 1 had a birthday. If you live in the St. George area, the Sand Hollow Aquatic Center is the best deal for you birthday party money. $65 gets you an hour and a half of swimming for 12 kids, plus a hot snack bar item, a drink, a balloon and a party favor for each child. The kids get some healthy activity and I don't have to worry about all of the stress that comes with hosting a children's party at my house. (You do however have to book at least 2 weeks in advance.) Respiratory Read more [...]

Moments with My 5-year-old

by heather
I haven't found a stage of parenting that I don't love, of course it's easy to say that now, because I generally get to sleep through the night, but I am really enjoying Thing 2 and where he's at right now. He's independant enough that he can manage his own seat-belt, most wrappers and he doesn't need to be carried. He's still young enough that mean kids haven't made him shy and he has a great sense of wonder about him. He's got imagination and enthusiasm and he's just fun to be around. Here are Read more [...]

What I’ve been up to- February 2013

by heather
I had a minor cold that lingered all month. Blegh. I started exercising a little more consistently. I haven't really exercised since before Christmas. My husband inherited some money. We were able to pay for the bathroom remodel and say goodbye to our student loans. Wahoo! Also I have to say it is super fantastic to have two fully functional bathrooms again. I bought a case of tomatoes and canned salsa I also canned tomato sauce. For Valentine's I made a Cheddar/Gouda Fondue. I roasted Read more [...]

Getting Paint Out of the Carpet

by heather
See this face? This face is the sweetness and mischief. Anyone who has a toddler or who hasn't blocked this period of time from their memory knows what I am talking about. Sunday evening I was talking to my sister (almost 14) about what I've been up to. I was afraid she was going to wet her self she was laughing so hard. And what have I been up to? Oh, just cleaning up one disaster after another. Once upon a time I was very productive every day. Now I consider myself victorious if my house Read more [...]

Fan Tent and Pillow Pit

by heather
This week I haven't made any breakthroughs in food storage consumption. I haven't read any life changing books and I still haven't found a magic wand that keeps my house clean and makes gold coins appear out of thin air. I've just been running and being mom. One fun thing we did this week on a rainy afternoon was set up a tent and pillow pit in our living room. It was pretty awesome if I do say so myself which I can because it wasn't even my idea, it was my husband's. Equipment required for the Read more [...]

Food Storage Friday: Pregnancy

by heather
Last Saturday my husband and I were sitting in the shallow end of the pool watching our kids play in the water. My husband patted his stomach and said "I need to exercise more."I patted my stomach and said "I also need to exercise more.""That's not fat. That's a baby." It's not that I think I am fat. It's just that since I became pregnant, exercise has dropped down to less than once a month. I need to do better, but growing a baby just makes me tired.I grabbed a love handle and said "This is not a Read more [...]

Something so funny it just has to be shared

by heather
A few weeks ago I came across the blog "Hyperbole and a Half". It's pretty hilarious. Last night I read "The Party" It was so blasted funny that I was laughing/crying/sobbing uncontrollably. (Maybe part of that was because I was really tired after 2 very long shifts at work.) My husband sat across the table looking at me like I had lost my mind. I think it is an incident that many mothers can at least sympathize with. And then I dreamed about it and was woken up by my own laughter. So that's why Read more [...]
