Food Storage & Other Adventures in Motherhood

What I’ve Been Up To: July 2013

by heather

What I’ve been doing:

  • Visited the Grand Canyon
  • My toddler has decided that she wants to be potty-trained. No actual success yet. But everyday she takes a few minutes to sit on the potty. Baby steps…
  • School shopping for my kids
  • In an attempt to keep the kids busy I enrolled them in some day camps. Painting for Thing 1 and World Traveling for Thing 2.
  • Found a great bedroom set for Thing 2 on KSL for $200. Organized and de-cluttered his room. Perhaps it will be easier to keep clean. Maybe. I can hope, right?
  • Did the Freedom Run with my family. First race for the kids.
  • Turned 30. My super sweet Thing 1 made me a pinata for my birthday and we had a party.

What I’ve been reading/listening to/watching:

  • Hans Mattsson — Former LDS Area Authority Seventy (Sweden)– A former General Authority talks about his faith crisis and how the General Authorities above him handled it. I loved what his wife said. ‘When you have something that really bothers you, the best thing to do is to talk to your friends and family about it.’ He seems like such a nice guy who really wants to believe in the LDS Church and sincerely hope that there will be a revelation to help resolve the faith issues that so many members are having in relation to LDS Church history.
  • New York Times article about Hans Mattson A brief synopsis of Hans and his story.
  • 10 Things I Plan to Tell My Daughter About Sex In this article a father talks about teaching his daughter that it is important to be responsible and no matter what stupid things she does, he will still love her.
  • The Recycled Orchestra There are so many beautiful things about this video. I love it. For everyone who valued their high school musical experience, watch this. For everyone who likes to see creative and resourceful recycling, watch this. For everyone who has a place in their heart for the poor in South America, watch this. And anyone else who has 3 minutes to see something awesome, you should watch this too.
  • LDS Young Women’s Survey “These are the results so far of a totally anonymous survey about women’s experience in the LDS YW program.  The aim of this survey is to assist leaders in understanding the experience of women in the LDS YW program.”  Some of the responses (and the percentage of people who felt they were taught that) are really sad, but I think that everyone who went through YW should take the survey and represent their own experience.
